1. Post-Doctoral Researcher - Computational Chemistry and Materials Science

International laboratory "Solution Chemistry of Advanced Materials and Technologies" (SCAMT) is a leading material science laboratory at ITMO University. The laboratory has strong international collaboration with leading scientific groups in the Netherlands, Canada, Israel, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Our main research areas are:

  • materials science: colloids and surface chemistry (synthesis of nanomaterials and their manipulation at the nanoscale), optics, physics, chemistry etc;

  • physical sensor systems: fabrication and application of new optical and magnetic biosensors for the research of intermolecular interactions and hypersensitive detection;

  • biosensors formed by 3D-printing methods;

  • catalytic technologies for green chemistry.

2. Post-Doctoral Researcher - Machine Learning and BigData in Finance

Recently established international research laboratory ITMO.FinTech, headed by Prof. Janusz Hołyst is looking for a research associate / senior research associate in the field of Machine Learning and BigData in Finance. The laboratory is aimed at developing intellectual Big Data technologies to support decision-making in finance based on predictive modeling. Bank Saint-Petersburg (one of the largest regional banks in Russia) is the main industrial partner of the laboratory.

Successful candidates will join the Financial Computing research group. Information on key research fields and projects (eScience Research Institute of ITMO University).

Main tasks:

  • research and development activities in scalable machine learning/data mining with strong ties to finance;

  • publishing in leading international journals

  • participating in international conferences;

  • supervising master’s students and post-doctoral researchers.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • PhD in computer science, scientific computing, applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, statistics or within big data domain

  • Strong experience in supervised/unsupervised learning, classification, clustering, neural networks, multivariate statistics, probabilistic models or Bayesian inference.

  • Strong programming skills in Python/R/C++/Java/Scala with a focus on computational efficiency

  • Hands-on experience with design and analysis of algorithms and optimization methods

  • Experience in applying machine learning techniques, statistical analysis of BigData and predictive modeling to financial sphere is highly beneficial

  • Experience in distributed, cloud, big data computing and parallelization is beneficial

  • Strong English language skills.

The contract is signed for a fixed term up to three years with a possibility of extension. The salary is discussed individually after the interview.

3. Associate Professor - Computer Science

The High-Performance Computing Department (http://en.escience.ifmo.ru/), which was founded in 2010 as part of the Information Technologies and Programming Department at ITMO University, is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (Urban Studies, Big Data&Machine Learning, Bioinformatics).

The teaching staff consists of professionals in the field of mathematical and computer modeling, BigData processing, scientific visualization, and virtual reality, as well as domain specialists.

Our department closely collaborates with the eScience Research Institute, and is actively involved in world-class research projects, publishing the results in leading Russian and international journals.

Teaching the following subjects:

4. Post-Doctoral Researcher - Experimental Photonics, Organic Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics

The recently established “Laboratory of Hybrid nanophotonics and optoelectronics" headed by Prof. Anvar Zakhidov, is seeking to appoint a research associate in the field of nanophotonics and organic photovoltaics/optoelectronics. The laboratory is established in ITMO University and consists of a young team of highly-motivated researchers aiming to publish their results in high-impact journals.

The project is dedicated to the development of advanced solar cells and LEDs based on organic-inorganic materials (perovskite or metal-organic frameworks) with integrated nanophotonic structures (nanoparticles, metasurfaces, photonic crystals etc.).

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A recent Ph.D. degree in Physics, Engineering or Chemistry;

  • Strong experimental skills and hands-on experience in optical measurements, material science, or chemical synthesis to create organic-inorganic nanostructured devices;

  • Experience in optical modeling will be a plus.

5. Post-Doctoral Researcher - Experimental nanophotonics and nanofabrication

The recently established laboratory "Hybrid light-matter states in low-dimensional quantum materials" headed by Prof. Maurice Skolnick, is seeking to appoint a research associate in the field of experimental nanophotonics (spectroscopy). The laboratory is established in ITMO University.

The project is dedicated to the exploration of strong-light matter coupling phenomena between the electromagnetic field in nanostructures and excitons in low-dimensional semiconductors and novel 2d materials. We are looking for a creative, self-motivated experimentalist who has the ability and the drive to pursue challenging, interdisciplinary problems in a fast-paced research environment.

A successful candidate will join an international team, combining theoreticians, experimentalists, and technologists.

  • A recent Ph.D. degree in Physics;

  • Strong experimental skills and hands-on experience in laser-spectroscopy or related optical measurements to probe condensed matter phenomena;

6. Post-doctoral Research Position - Microwave Metamaterials

ITMO University (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) is offering a postdoctoral position to a bright and highly motivated young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career.

The successful candidate will be joining the recently established laboratory “Metamaterials” led by Prof. Pavel Belov. The group has experience both in theoretical modeling and experimental studies in the areas of microwave metamaterials and metasurfaces, microwave devices, antennas and their applications etc. In the laboratory, theoreticians closely collaborate with the experimentalists possessing state of the art facilities for microwave experiments. The candidate will participate in the on-going projects of the group and will be involved in fabrication of 2D and 3D metamaterials, various resonant structures, experimental characterization of their microwave properties, as well as their numerical simulation. The successful candidate will be joining the recently established laboratory “Metamaterials” led by Prof. Pavel Belov.
