1. Postdoctoral Researcher (Machine Learning and Big Data in Finance)

The recently established ITMO.FinTech International Research Laboratory, headed by Prof. Janusz Hołyst, is looking for a research associate/senior research associate in the field of Machine Learning and Big Data in finance. The laboratory is aimed at developing intellectual Big Data technologies that facilitate decision-making processes in finance based on predictive modeling. Bank Saint-Petersburg, one of the largest regional banks in Russia, is among the laboratory’s industrial partners.

Responsibilities:

  • research and development activities in scalable machine learning/data mining in finance;
  • publishing in high-ranked international journals;
  • participation in international conferences;
  • supervising Master’s students and PhD researchers.

Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in computer science, scientific computing, applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, statistics or Big Data;
  • Experience in supervised/unsupervised learning, classification, clustering, neural networks, multivariate statistics, probabilistic models or Bayesian inference;
  • Excellent programming skills (Python/R/C++/Java/Scala) with a focus on computational efficiency;
  • Hands-on experience in design and analysis of algorithms and optimization methods;
  • Experience in applying machine learning techniques, statistical analysis of Big Data and predictive modeling in finance will be an advantage;
  • Experience in distributed, cloud, Big Data computing, and parallelization will be an advantage;
  • English language skills.

The contract is signed for a period of three years with a possibility of extension. Salary level is discussed individually during the interview.

Candidates are required to submit a cover letter, a CV, a list of publications, at least two references, and a completed PhD thesis.

2. Associate Professor (Computer Science)

ITMO’s High-Performance Computing Department founded in 2010 is looking for an associate professor in Urban Studies, Big Data and Machine Learning, and Bioinformatics.

The teaching staff consists of professionals in the field of mathematical and computer modeling, Big Data processing, scientific visualization, and virtual reality.

Our department closely collaborates with the eScience Research Institute, publishes the results in high-ranked Russian and international journals, and is actively involved in a variety of international research projects.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for an associate professor who will teach the following subjects:

  • Algorithms for data analysis;
  • Internet and web technologies;
  • Parallel algorithms for data synthesis and analysis;
  • Big Data technologies and infrastructure;
  • Introduction to eScience and eEngineering;
  • Evolutionary computing;
  • Internet technologies and Big Data.

Requirements:

  • A doctorate degree in Computer Science/Math/Modelling and Simulation;
  • At least three years of teaching experience or the title of an Associate Professor.

3. English Language Teacher (Native Speaker)

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching English to students and University's employees with language proficiency levels ranging from Intermediate to Advanced six days a week.
  • Training students in the field of general English, English for specific purposes, and Academic Writing;
  • Assessing students’ progress;
  • Taking part in workshops and seminars organized for EFL teachers.

Requirements:

  • Higher education;
  • A TEFL/CELTA Certificate;
  • At least three years teaching experience;
  • Experience in teaching group classes;

  • Knowledge of modern methodologies;

4. Postdoctoral Researcher (Nonlinear Optics of Metal-Organic Frameworks)

ITMO University's International Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, headed by Prof. Pavel Belov, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher.

The Center conducts research in the following fields:

  • dielectric and quantum nanophotonics;
  • biophotonics;
  • topological photonics;
  • nanoplasmonics;
  • optical and microwave metamaterials and metasurfaces;
  • meta-devices for MRI;
  • wireless power transmission;
  • nanooptomechanics;
  • nanofabrication;
  • metal-organic materials.

We cooperate with many renowned universities worldwide, including the University of Texas at Dallas, Utrecht University, Aalto University, the University of Iceland, the Nanyang Technological University, the Australian National University, and the University of Lorraine. The Research Center has won three megagrants (a large research grant awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation), as well as dozens of Russian and International grants including Horizon 2020.

The Center has cutting-edge equipment for conducting high-level research in such fields as plasmonics, nonlinear optics, dielectric nanophotonics, sources of single photons and their applications.

Our researchers publish their works in high-impact scientific journals, including Nature Photonics, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Physical Review Letters, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Nanoscale, etc.

Our specific projects include:

  • synthesis of MOFs;
  • development of new strategies for MOFs nanostructuring;
  • investigation nonlinear optical processes in MOFs, including excitonics.

Requirements:

  • a PhD degree in physics or chemistry;
  • a strong publication record in relevant fields: synthesis and characterization of new coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks or investigation of coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks as functional materials for chemistry and physics;
  • good communication skills and work ethics;
  • research experience in free-space laser optics, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, optical spectroscopy, and XRD will be an advantage.

5. Postdoctoral Researcher (Hybrid Nanophotonics and Optoelectronics)

ITMO University’s Laboratory of Hybrid Nanophotonics and Optoelectronics (PeroLab), headed by Prof. Anvar Zakhidov, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher.  

PeroLab is a team of young forward-thinkers, led by renowned scientists, working in close collaboration with some of the world’s leading research centers in the USA, Australia, Hong Kong, France, and the UK. PeroLab researchers expand the boundaries of nanophotonics in order to open new fundamental principles of light-matter interaction at the nanoscale.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will model novel nanophotonic designs using halide perovskites and other optical materials. Candidates are expected to have experience both in analytical and numerical modeling and be able to work in an interdisciplinary international team of engineers, theoreticians, and experimentalists.

By the end of the postdoctoral training, researchers are expected to continue their independent research career.

Requirements:

  • a recent PhD degree (obtained within the last five years);
  • at least two Scopus/Web of Science publications over the last year.

6. Postdoctoral Researcher (3D Nanolithography)

ITMO University's International Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, headed by Prof. Pavel Belov, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher.

The Center conducts research in the following fields:

  • dielectric and quantum nanophotonics;
  • biophotonics;
  • topological photonics;
  • nanoplasmonics;
  • optical and microwave metamaterials and metasurfaces;
  • meta-devices for MRI;
  • wireless power transmission;
  • nanooptomechanics.

Our researchers publish their works in high-impact scientific journals, including Nature Photonics, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Physical Review Letters, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Nanoscale, ACS Photonics, etc.

Responsibilities:

Postdoctoral researchers are expected to contribute to the research activities of the Center by cooperating with its staff, writing and publishing scientific articles, and sharing their experience with students.

By the end of the postdoctoral training, researchers are expected to continue their independent research career.

Requirements:

  • research experience  in 3D nanolithography methods, numerical simulations and programming, optical measurement techniques, and spectroscopy;
  • creativity, independent thinking;
  • a recent PhD degree in optics or laser physics (obtained within the last five years);
  • at least two Scopus/Web of Science publications over the last year.
