Alexey Bobtsov

Biography

In 1990 he entered and in 1996 successfully graduated from St. Petersburg State Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics (Technical University) - SPbIFMO (TU). From 1996 to 1999 he attended a full-time postgraduate study and since 1999 he has been working at the University.

In 1999 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences, his specialty was 05.13.01 "System analysis, management and information processing".

In 2006 he defended his thesis for the degree of doctor of technical sciences, his specialty was 05.13.01 "System analysis, management and information processing".

He worked as an engineer, assistant, assistant professor at the faculty of Control systems and Informatics. In September, 2008 he was elected as the Dean of the faculty of Computer Technology and Controlling Systems, which is the largest faculty in NRU ITMO. While being the Dean Alexey Bobtsov has created two facultys based on enterprise at the faculty: "Control of rocket and space technology lifecycle" and "Optical Digital Systems and Complexes".

In February 2010, he was elected as the Head of the faculty of Control Systems and Informatics.

In 2009, Alexey Bobtsov was elected as the departmentman of the Council of young scientists and specialists of the Government of St. Petersburg. He is an active member of the Academy of Navigation and Motion Control and also a scientific advisor of the Russian Academy of Science under the theory of controlling processes and automation.

Alexey Bobtsov is an author of more than 140 publications, including two monographs and more than 50 journal articles and 8 educational guides.

Alexey Bobtsov is a member of the Dissertation Councils D 212.227.03 and D 212.227.06.

Under the guidance of Professor Bobtsov three graduate students successfully defended the theses for the scientific degree of candidate of technical sciences. Currently Alexey Bobtsov is the mentor of one doctoral student who became the winner of grants contest of the President of the Russian Federation for young PhDs in 2007 and two graduate students. Currently under the guidance of Professor Bobtsov there are three projects being in progress under the U.M.N.I.K program. Under the guidance of Alexey Bobtsov more than 10 undergraduate and graduate students won the grants contest of the Government of St. Petersburg.

Alexey Bobtsov is a member of the Organizing Committee of the International Baltic Olympiad on Automatic Control, as well as a member of the Program Committee of the Conference of Young Scientists "Navigation and Motion Control".

Alexey Bobtsov carries on active international activity. He is a participant of a research project held in cooperation between General Motors Corporation and NRU ITMO. Since 2008 Alexey Bobtsov is the Vice-departmentman of the North- western section of the IEEE Control Systems Society, Computational Intelligence Society and Robotics & Automation Society. In April 2009 because of the prior agreements between SPbSU ITMO and the University of California, San Diego (USA), under the guidance of Alexey Bobtsov there was held a scientific training of a graduate student A. Pyrkin in the laboratory of Professor Miroslav Krstic, who is a well-known expert in the field of automatic control . In 2009, Alexey Bobtsov was the departmentman of 3 sections at the largest international scientific event - 17th World Congress of the International Federation of Automatic Control.

Alexey Bobtsov is a member of the editorial board of Scientific and Technical Journal of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics which is included in the list of HAC, as well as a reviewer of more than 10 leading national and foreign magazines.

Alexey Bobtsov is the leader of several scientific projects, which are being successfully held under the control of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and analytical facultyal program "Development of the scientific potential of higher education".

His research interests include the areas of theory of control processes and automation, adaptive, robust and nonlinear control, intelligent control, mechatronics and robotics, information technology in education.

Since 2013 he is the Head of the faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics.
