Lectures and seminars took place in Northwestern Polytechnical University in Sian, People`s Republic of China on October 28 – November 4. Providing the research participants used a multichannel laboratory unit equipped with a sensor measuring ion activity and volatile components` concentration in vapour-phase. Researchers focused on multitouch control devices and mathematical processing of multiple data algorithms.

According to Mr. Jahatspanian, shortage of drinking water is one of the most relevant problems in China. To solve it they usually turn back rivers` flows, which lead to biocenosis disorder, or demineralize water, which is very expensive.

“The Chinese needs effective potable water`s quality control methods. Currently there are exact methods of physical-chemical liquids` composition analysis. It is possible to analyze 100-150 components using high-priced equipment but it will not be clear whether this water is safe because this kind of analysis is only an abstruse index list,” shared the expert.

A traditional analysis based on lots of indexes is usually ineffective. However there are more useful tests that unfortunately have serious disadvantages. For example, currently systems based on biological entities are widely used.

“Biotesting is one of integrated analysis types. Such systems analyze how water affects bacteria, water plants, funges, as well as fishes, crustaceans, and mollusks. For example, St. Petersburg water service company uses crawfishes. However this system is very complicated and takes much time. There is an express analysis such as an artificial sensor-based system, which provides precise measurements in a short time. Furthermore it doesn`t have unexpected behavioral changes,” said the scientist.

Such technologies called “electronic nose” and “electronic tongue” appeared at the end of XX century. Thanks to them it is possible to detect odours and smacks.

According to Mr. Jahatspanian, this technology is a novelty for China. Moreover, it is not enough to develop sensors and provide a chemical analysis correctly. It`s also necessary to provide mathematical multiple processing of data. It gives an opportunity to distinguish impure, distilled and drinking water.

The multitouch device has a taught system. Its` tests usually take several minutes while teaching lasts for hours. After improving this technology with the assistance of Russian and international chemists, mathematicians and programmers it will be possible to start mass production.

 “We are going to improve hardware and software as well to prove the efficiency of this method by making lots of experiments together with our Chinese colleagues. Now we plan to sign a memorandum of collaboration…” underlined Igor Jahatspanian.
