Currently the main NTU`s goal is to develop international research departments and projects together with leading universities and research centers. Over the last ten years NTU has organized following projects: medical schools developed together with Imperial College London, a research center of world networks and sustained development together with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, as well as a scientific visualization center together with Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits.

“Several years of consistent investment in interantional research projects show excellent results. The citation index of academic papers is growing exponentially, which indicates improving quality of research. Also, there's growing support from the industry, including parterships with such companies as “BMW”, “Samsung” and others,” noted Mr. Boukhanovsky.

ITMO University follows the same path. Russian researchers established Institute of Translational Medicine, Institute of Design and Urban Studies as well as innovative cluster “Art&Science.” To enter the global arena ITMO University develops international research centers and invites international scientists to take part in “ITMO Fellowship and Visiting Professorship” program.

“We are sure that ITMO University has the same values, goals and development strategies as Nanyang Technological University. In 20th century NTU offered narrowly-specialized studying programs. It focused only on the local job market. However since 2000 NTU`s strategy has changed. Now Nanyang Technological University provides international research and training programs. It uses interdisciplinary approach to educational activities,” said Mr. Boukhanovsky.

ITMO University officials visited modern research labs and met with their experts. Russian delegation also met with professor Er Meng Hwa, Vice Rector for International Relations of NTU. Experts discussed what joint research projects could be launched in future. It was the first step of international collaboration between Russian and Singaporean scientists. Both ITMO University and NTU provide a special program “Fellowship”, which aims to attract leading professors from all over the world in order to organize international research teams.
