Three teams from ITMO University became the winners of the “VK Cup 2015”:

  • The 1st place – Niyaz Nigmatulin and Genady Korotkevich, two-times champions of the “ACM ICPC”.
  • The 2nd  place – Adam Bardashevich who placed 3rd at the “ACM ICPC 2014” and Boris Minaev, who placed 1st at the “ACM ICPC 2015” .
  • The 3rd place – Ilya Zban` and Ivan Belonogov, the students of the Information Technologies and Programming Department.

Unlike the “ACM ICPC”, where teams consist of three participants, a “VK Cup” team consists of one or two. Furthermore, the grading system at the “VK Cup” was uncommon. The fewer contestants solved a problem, the more points are given for it.

"Usually the winners of a programming contest are those who solved more tasks than others. Nobody except us solved the “C task”. That is why we have won,” said Niyaz Nigmatulin.

All Russian-speaking secondary school, college students and young specialists at the age of 14-23 could take part in the “VK Cup”. This year the prize fund is 2,5 million rubles, which is equivalent to $43,000.

““VK Cup” is aimed at the development of IT field in Russia. I hope that the “VK Cup” programming contest will be held every year,” said Tatiana Plutalova, the main organizer of the “VK Cup”. “It is awesome that three best teams are from ITMO University. It seems that the most talented programmers study here.”

More than 3 500 Russian-speaking programmers from 38 countries applied for the participation and only 20 teams reached the final.

This year the team of ITMO University powered by Genady Korotkevich, Boris Minaev and Artem Vasilyev placed 1st at “ACM ICPC 2015”, the most popular programming contest in the world. Thus it is the sixth time when ITMO`s team becomes a winner. It is an all-time record for a university.
