From 14 to 16 October in the Moscow technopolis the two major events were held: the annual international forum on "Open Innovation" and the Open Innovations Expo exhibition. Events were united by a common theme - "Creative destruction: how to remain competitive in the XXI century".

Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Li Keqiang, the Prime Minister of the State Council of China, were the main guests of the forum and the exhibition. In 2014, China became ​​a partner country of the forum. Anatoly Chubais, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of JSC "RUSNANO", Nikolay Nikiforov, the Minister of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Alexei Ulyukayev, the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and many others also attended the event.

The result of three days of hard work of the ITMO University was numerous business and informal meetings of Vladimir Vasiliev, the university rector, with existing and potential partners and colleagues. In particular, a series of talks with Ivan Bortnik, the executive director of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia, Alexander Kobenko, the deputy Prime Minister of the Samara region, Alexey Ponomarev, the vice-president of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skolkovo Tech), Alexei Troshin, the director of the JSC "St. Petersburg Elteh" and also a scheduled meeting with Andrei Swinarenko, the general director of JSC "RUSNANO" was held.

Numerous innovation programs and start-up projects of the ITMO University were presented at the Open Innovations Expo. Among them there were the layout of the bottom seismic station, which allows to measure data at great depths (development of the Laboratory of light guiding photonics at the ITMO University), the quantum information security system for optical fiber networks created by Arthur Gleym, the graduate student at the Department of Photonics and Optical Information Technology of the ITMO University, the leader of a small innovative enterprise "Quantum communications" at the University, as well as the whole area of the SUMIT start-up project of the ITMO University, where the developments started in the summer school were shown.

The victory of the VeeRoute project of Michael and Vladislav Kudinov, the ITMO University business incubator residents, in the GenerationS Competition was one of the main events of the past three days. Residents managed to take the top prize for the application, which designs solutions for the optimization of transport logistics and ideal for online shopping and courier services.

Victory in GenerationS is another achievement of University, proving that the ITMO University is one of the leaders in the field of training of IT-specialists. As Denis Mironov stressed, in St. Petersburg there are "the most innovative innovators”. It is not the first time when the Northern Capital holds a leading position in the ranking of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia. And ITMO University makes a significant contribution to the maintenance the status of innovative capital of the country.
