April, 3, 2014 the first public lecture by Professor Miranda Miranda Schreurs  will be held at the ITMO University. The topic of the lecture is «Energy policy in Europe, Japan, USA: a look at renewable energy, nuclear energy and shale gas». The event will be held in the framework of the project «Social science and practice for sustainable development (Sustainable Development): lectures of outstanding scientists and practitioners from Germany».

THE THEME OF THE MEETING

Energy is the heart of the modern economy and the central issue of concern about climate change. Europe, Japan and the United States - all of them are involved in the global energy revolution scenario, developed by Greenpeace and the European Council on renewable energy. A scenario is a plan to radically reduce greenhouse emissions in the energy and transport sector.

After the lecture, Professor Miranda Schreurs will answer questions of journalists.

The main goal of the project «Social science and practice for sustainable development: promotion of Russia on the way to sustainable development» is the creation of ecologically sound, economically successful and socially equitablefuture through the analysis of the world’s scientific achievements, political decisions, familiarization with best international practices.

ABOUT MIRANDA'S CHRIS

  • She is a lecturer at the Harvard University, Utrecht University, free University of Berlin and large universities of Japan (Keio, Chuo, Rikkyo);
  • She is a Professor of comparative politics at the Free University of Berlin;
  • She is a Director of Center of ecological policy of the Free University of Berlin;
  • She is a member of the Advisory Council of the German government.


PARTICIPANTS

Students of Universities of St. Petersburg, representatives of nonprofit organizations, journalists, experts and specialists in the scope of energy are invited to participation in the open lecture.


Working language of the event is English. The lectures will be conducted with simultaneous translation.
