Master's programs

The Affiliated Degree Department of Mathematical Physics and Information Theory was created in collaboration with  St. Petersburg's division of Steklov Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences for increasing the quality of ITMO's educational, research and innovative activities, collaborative training of specialists and conduction of collaborative research projects.

The department's work will focus on the problem of quantum communications which has become most relevant to the modern scientific community, which had to do with such recent phenomena as the crisis of information security, the limited life of data storage devices, use of compression algorithms and the development of BigData.

The Department of Mathematical Physics and Information Theory already has substantial scientific and educational groundwork in this field. Among the academic staff of the international laboratory "Modern Communication technologies and their application in economics and finance" that serves as base for the Department of Mathematical Physics and Information Theory are renowned scientists in the field of mathematical physics, quantum systems and communication technology. For instance, professors Dorje Brody and Lane Hughston from Brunel University London partake in the laboratory’s work.

The Department's purpose: organizing and conducting educational, research and methodological work in several interrelated fields as part of corresponding Master's Degree programs and training academic personnel.
