The Department was organized on 09.02.2015 by joining two Departments (Industrial Economics and Organization of Production and Management) and of two Departments (Economics and Environmental Management and Humanities).
The Department of Industrial Economics and Organization of Production
The Department of Industrial Economics and Organization of Production, the oldest economic Department of former Institute of Refrigeration and Biotechnology was founded in 1947.
The Department was run by Associate Professor M. R. Goncharov (1947-1951), Associate Professor N.V.Zenenko (1951-1953), Associate Professor P. F. Lovikov (1953-1969), Professor N.V.Krylov (1969-1982), Professor, Doctor of Economics I. S. Minko (1982-2007), since 2007 till now– Professor, Doctor of Economics M. A. Makarchenko.
The Department faculty includes 4 D.Sc., Professors; 6 PhDs, Associate Professors.
The Department members have published 28 monographs and over 400 scientific articles, 15 textbooks and manuals.
The textbooks "Economics of Refrigeration Industry", "Organization and Planning of Production at the Enterprises of Refrigeration Industry" and a manual with tasks on these courses, written by L. I. Grishin, N. V. Krylov, P. F. Novikov, A. M. Billic, I. S. Minko and other professionals had 2 editions and for about 20 years were the main textbooks in all engineering universities of the country preparing engineers for the refrigeration industry.
Over the past 5 years three PhD and one doctoral dissertation have been successfully defended.
Graduates of the Department work at the largest enterprises of food industry in the city and the North-West, such as JSC beer brewing company "Baltika", JSC "Karavai", the company "Unimilk" and many others.
The Department of Management
The Department of Management was set up in 1995 on the basis of the oldest Department of Industrial Economics and Organization of Production trained students of all technical majors in the areas of production economics; organization, planning and production management.
Since 1968 the Department was headed by D.Sc., Professor V. A. Petrov – the founder of a new scientific trend "Organization of Production and Operational Management". The Department had three sections: Industrial Economics; Organization and Planning of Production; Safety and Labor Protection.
In 1986 the Department started training specialists in "Organization of Production" majoring in "Instruments Manufacturing" at the vocational department of accelerated learning and had three years of graduates - engineers and production managers.
In 1992 it underwent reorganization and became the Department of Enterprise Economics and Management, later - the Department of Management and started training of bachelors and specialists in the field of "Management". In 1997 the first bachelors and “Manager” specialists graduated from the Department.
Over the period since 1997 the Department has trained over 900 managers.
Its faculty has 16 teachers, including 2 professors, 10 PhDs, one honored worker of education and two members of the International Academy of the Theory and Practice of Production Organization.
The Department staff provided teaching for more than 20 organizational and managerial disciplines, carried out teaching-methodological as well as research and development activities (5 textbooks and manuals were classified by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation), trained post-graduate students in the corresponding fields.
Department of Production Management and Technology Transfer today
The ITMO Department staff includes 32 employees, 6 having the title of Professor, among them 4 D.Sc., 11 PhDs.
The Department employs both acting entrepreneurs and managers and well-known scientists who are members of the dissertation councils of the ITMO and other universities in St. Petersburg, members of editorial boards listed in the HAC; members and corresponding members of the Russian and international academies. Many of them have honorary titles and awards (Honorary worker of higher professional education) medals and diplomas.
The teachers participate in national and international congresses and conferences. The Department organizes the international scientific conference "Russia in the WTO: opportunities, objectives, problems" and international scientific-practical conference "Strategies and Instruments for Managing the Economy: Sector and Regional Aspects".
The participants in the conference were experts from different cities of Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Czech Republic, etc.
Currently the Department is implementing the bachelor program in "Management" and master program in "Innovation" and "Management", it also deals with admission to post-graduate course.
The Department staff actively participates in scientific research and social projects.
The Department of PMiTT in the framework of the strategic partnership interacts with the academic units of the ITMO University (International Research Centers), ITMO Department of Scientific-Educational Marketing Research, enterprises and organizations that implement innovative projects within the priority areas (areas of science) research activities of the ITMO University, including JSC "Sberbank of Russia", JSC " CSRI Concern Electropribor", PLC "Gazprom gas motor fuel" PLC, "Fruit & Vegetables Company "Shcheglovo", and others that have confirmed their interest in the specialists trained within the program, and the opportunity to participate in the educational process, including practical training and masters’ scientific research.
The Department relations with scientific and industrial centers in Germany, Finland, Great Britain, USA and the Czech Republic, implementing innovative projects within the priority areas (areas of science) and research activities of ITMO University provide opportunities for international internships for students.
Much attention is paid to the organization of students’ research activities. Students are actively involved in doing research both on state-run and private company projects. The results of their scientific research are published in the intercollegiate, national and international conferences and symposia periodicals as well as implemented in the economy (results of course and diploma projects). In addition, students act as co-authors of scientific articles and reports.
Since 2007 the Department actively participates in the competitive selection of graduation projects commissioned by the government of St. Petersburg.
The educational process is focused on the successful employment and ensuring graduates’ career. To achieve this goal the Department has established business contacts with enterprises, organizations, and management structures with the aim of using their potential in training and scientific research activities. The Department has signed long-term contracts with major companies in the region such as PLC "Unimilk" LTD., "Sigma", interdistrict IFTS № 17 of St. PETERSBURG, JSC "Nevsky Bank", JSC "Karavai", representative office of LLC "Begarat Vertriebs und Service" in St. Petersburg, PLC "Krona trade", etc. All that allows an optimal implementation of scientific developments into the production process and graduates have opportunities to gain practical experience.
During studies students get both professional expertise, and realize themselves in the field of social design and entrepreneurship, form leadership skills, fostering personal growth and the realization of creative potential.
