During the past decade teaching contents, methodology, structure and approaches have radically changed. The Chair as one of first in Russia has elaborated and introduced into educational process new academic programs and educational schedules. The basic principles consist in understanding historical events. This approach allows:

• to present a difficult and contradictory path of Russia from ancient times up to the 21 st century;
• to reveal the effects of the powerful centers of civilization of the East and West;
• to show the role and contribution of the Russia in the world community;

An educational system has been developed and introduced including:

• lecture (elective) courses,
• writing (elective) seminars,
• computer testing as the form of independent activity of the students.
