The Physics Chair has existed since 1930 when our University (LITMO at that time) was organized as a tertiary educational institution.
The Physics Chair is one of the Chairs providing a general education in the university. The Chair delivers a general physics course for full-time and part-time faculties. The teaching is either standard or in depth, the course volume being 324 and 500 academic hours, respectively. Lectures, practical and laboratory work are given during 1 - 4 semesters for the first and second year students. At the end of each semester students must pass tests and examinations.
The Chair is well equipped with the teaching aids for all the studied chapters of physics and also with the specialized computerized facilities for studying electromagnetism, oscillatory processes, wave and quantum optics.
A separate computer classroom which functions at the Chair is intended for testing the gained knowledge, processing of experimental data, student projects and research work .
Since establishing the Natural Sciences Department in 1994 the Physics Chair provides a cycle of special disciplines for selected students majoring in computer technologies. Graduates from this specialization gain the qualification of Engineer - Educational Specialist.
The teaching staff of the Chair includes such esteemed people as:
Honoured Worker of Tertiary Education in Russia Dr.Sci.Tech., Prof. N.A. Yaryshev, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology in Russia, Dr.Sci.Phys.& Maths., Prof. A.V. Sechkarev, Honoured Worker of Higher Education in Russia Eng. J.V. Zhdanov.
