Optical-Electronic Devices and Systems

Head of Chair: Valery V. Korotaev
Website

The Chair provides training and preparation for students of Masters, Engineers and Bachelors levels in Optical and Electronic Technologies as a major part of toptical Technology.

The graduates of the Chair are capable of professional research, development and design of optical and optical-electronic instruments, devices and systems for different applications including environmental monitoring.

OEDS provides:

  • Optical radiation-measuring over a wide spectral range;
  • Signal conversion from optical into electrical form;
  • Signal processing using the latest computers and computing techniques;
  • Information presentation in a mode perceptible by the human eye (displays, reference scales etc);
  • Generation of the signals monitoring of various processes.

OEDS makes possible:

  • Supervision of industrial technological processes and check of the production quality;
  • Provision of intrusion protection and alarm signals in the systems of protection and safety;
  • High volume data transfer using fibre-optic lines in communication systems;
  • Environmental monitoring of specific objects (rivers, lakes, city districts, industrial plants, roads, etc.) and extended areas among others with use of the aviation and satellite tracking systems;
  • Biological sample analysis, medicine diagnosis and physiotherapeutic treatment;
  • Co-ordinate measurement and positioning of space stations and guiding aircraft in aviation, missile and space technology;
  • Watching, recording and reproducing video information using home video equipment;
  • Recording and reproducing the information with use of the optical information carriers (CD, DVD) - in computer engineering.

In 2002 an admission was opened for the first time to the specialization Optical-Electronic Devices and Systems for the Video Information Processing. This specialization includes the following disciplines:

Nowadays the OEDS Chair has at its disposal seven student teaching laboratories, computer classroom with Internet Access. Highly skilled teachers work at the Chair, among them are seven professors, doctors of sciences and 8 associate professors with PhDs. The structure of the Chair includes a research and production laboratory named Optical-Electronic Systems.

The Chair carries out scientific research and developments in the following areas:

  • The theory of the OEDS;
  • Mathematical methods, algorithms and software for the OEDS computer design;
  • Methods for the information processing by means of the opto-electronics;
  • Creation of the new high precision OEDS;
  • Development of the OEDS for the monitoring environmentally dangerous objects, media as well as for the running environmental monitoring.

Staff of the Chair conducted R & D work "Development of Optoelectronic Readout System of Reference Marks and Video Recording Devices to Monitor the Status of the Upper Structure of the Railway".
