The Chair prepares specialists in monitoring instruments and in the computer tomography systems. The Chair is a leader of the Teaching Methods Association of instrument-making departments in Russian universities. The Chair has close connections with a number of leading enterprises of the appropriate branch such as the Design Office Electroautomatics, the Central Design Office for Automatics, the Moscow Aircraft Building Company, the Institute of Brain etc. During the training the students have practical experience at the affiliate departments in the leading enterprises such as famous LOMO (Optical and Mechanical Devices Production Company), Design Office Electroautomatics etc.

The Chair has at its disposal seven laboratories on the total square of 400 m2 and also a computer classroom where practical work is carried out on the disciplines related to calculations or designing of research instruments.

At present the Chair is the only one preparing experts in the field of medical and technical applications of magnetic-resonance tomography.
