The Chair is headed by the Honored Worker of Science and Technology in Russia Prof. Vadim P. Veiko, a laureate of the State Prize.

The Honored Worker of Science and Technology in Russia Prof. M.N. Libenson has also contributed actively into the works of the Chair.

The teaching staff of the Chair consists of 12 persons. The leading experts from S.I.Vavilov State Optical Research Institute as well as from St.Ptb. State Medical University are involved into educational process.

A laboratory  where the students do the practical works on the protection of labour and environment has been established at the Chair. There is also a moderate computerized classroom purposed for the student practice in computer control and data processing. In addition, undergraduate students carry out their research worksin the attached research laboratory.

The Chair has close connections with leading St. Petersburg enterprises where the students have an industrial practice and prepare their graduation projects, such famous organizations as S.I. Vavilov State Optical Research Institute, the State Institute of Applied Chemistry, State Pulmonology Institute and others are among them.

Presently, 120 students are trainedat the Chair , 45 persons majoring in the general specialty are among them, seven persons are the postgraduate students, one scientist prepares his doctoral thesis, four students are trained for the Master degree, and one for the Bachelor.

Staff of the Chair conducted Research "New Class of Phenomena of Structural Adjustment in the Glass-Phase Environment under Laser Radiation" and Research "Physical and Technical Basics of Laser Technology and Equipment for Cleaning and Decontamination of Sites of Nuclear Power Plants".
