The Chair teaches higher mathematics to all university students, being the most academically responsible in the university. Higher mathematics is a basic discipline of the mathematical cycle; it plays an extremely important role in providing specialists with a fundamental education.

In addition, a number of the specialized mathematical disciplines are delivered to students of the Natural Sciences Department and the Computer Technologies and Management Department.
The Chair employs more teachers than any other. The Chair`s teachers work actively in the field of fundamental research into mathematics, physics, theoretic and applied mechanics.

More than 300 papers have been published by members of the Chair in domestic and foreign journals. The teachers of the Chair participate actively in Russian and International scientific conferences and deliver courses abroad. Among others Prof. Victor Y. Tertychny is a member of the New York Academy and a Soros` Professor.
