One of the oldest Chairs of the University. The Chair traditionally provides basic engineering training to students.
Since 1997/1998 the Chair prepares specialists in Vocational Training: Engineering and Computer Graphics. The qualification gained is an Engineer - Teacher.
In order to provide the educational process and scientific research, the Chair has at its disposal good teaching facilities including modern computers with internet access.
The leading teachers of the Chair carry out scientific research, deliver post-graduate study courses in cooperation with other divisions of the University and State scientific centers and establishments of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The basic scientific directions of the Chair are:
- Development of the remote educational network for the continuous education systems in the St. Petersburg;
- Mathematical modelling of the interactions in environmental interaction (water, wind, steam, gas) between geometrical surfaces at the mini- and micro-scale including research and development methods for automated design of the wind and hydropower stations of vertical type with automatic adjustment of the blades attack angles;
- Prototype systems research and development on logical programming languages basis such as PDC and Visual Prolog;
- Programming integrated development for mathematical and geometrical modelling for the fabrication of mechanical systems of the controlled flexible endoscopes;
- Research into ruled and non-ruled screw surfaces with the help of their plane analogues for designing modified gearings.
